Winners Announced for the Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards 2024
The Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards 2024 has celebrated another year of remarkable innovation and creativity in Australian architecture and design. Now in their 7th year, the Awards continue to recognise outstanding projects that showcase the versatility of Lysaght steel building products across a diverse range of building types.
Among the standout entries, the Ned Kelly Discovery Hub by Content Studio captured the judges' attention with its harmonious balance of form, purpose, and sustainability. Recognised for its cutting-edge design principles and key contribution to regional architecture in Australia, Content Studio was named the overall winner, earning a trip to Singapore to attend the World Architecture Festival.

Overall Winner & Regional Design
Project: Ned Kelly Discovery Hub, Content Studio
The Ned Kelly Discovery Hub in Glenrowan, Victoria, blends historical storytelling with contemporary architecture. Showcasing LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305®, the roof features complex geometries and a distinctive circular form, offering a visual and symbolic nod to Australia’s bushranger heritage. This thoughtful design not only honours Ned Kelly's legacy but also stands as a striking example of cutting-edge, context-sensitive architecture.
Commercial & Industrial Design
Project: Warren Integrated Studies Hub, Mayoh Architects
Located at Macarthur Anglican School in Cobbitty, NSW, this STEAM facility integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics disciplines within a collaborative space. Its innovative design uses LYSAGHT® LONGLINE® 305 (made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Surfmist®) in a tapered profile to create a distinctive curved roof. With a focus on sustainability, the design demonstrates a commitment to adaptive reuse, energy efficiency, passive solar principles, and stormwater collection.
Celebrating ZENITH®
Project: Norlane Aquatic Recreation Centre, ARCH
Located in Victoria, the Norlane Aquatic Recreation Centre exemplifies sustainable and efficient design, achieving a 5-Star Green Star rating. LYSAGHT IMPERIAL®, from the ZENITH® range, was used for both the roofing and walling, enhancing the centre’s visual appeal while contributing to energy efficiency and airtightness.
Residential Design
Project: Ahimsa Studio, g2 architects
Ahimsa Studio is a detached art studio and guest retreat located on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales. Clad in LYSAGHT ENSEAM®, made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Monument®, its bold geometry and sleek, angular lines blend seamlessly with its surroundings. The design showcases how architecture can harmoniously integrate with its environment while providing functional, creative spaces.
Student Design
Project: Wooditch Tea House, Justin Katsumata Yu, University of Western Australia
Inspired by Japanese architecture, the Wooditch Tea House integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, creating a tranquil space. A key feature of the tea house is its LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® gable roof with an overhang, which reflects both durability and harmony with the environment. The minimalist design fosters a deep connection with nature while providing a functional and peaceful retreat.
People’s Choice Award
Project: Forster Surf Life Saving Club, Webber Architects
This year, the introduction of the People’s Choice Award brought a new element of engagement to the Lysaght Inspirations Design Awards. This project stands out for its thoughtful design, seamlessly blending function with a strong sense of community and connection to its coastal environment.
