Compass 2022 Video - Penguin Parade Visitors Centre

Penguin Parade Visitor Centre in Victoria, designed by Terroir, features an expansive roof made from COLORBOND® Ultra steel – designed for severe marine environments – to withstand harsh weather conditions from the Bass Strait coastline.

Architect Terroir’s Scott Balmforth said the colour Cosmic® in Metallic finish was chosen “Because it’s a neutral colour that also has ‘depth’ to it because it’s shiny and glistening. The view of the roof is a real asset for the business – especially at dusk when it sets off a subtle visual ‘sizzle’ that complements the emerging penguins.”

The building’s colours invert swimming penguins, which sport dark coats on top and light-coloured coats underneath.

The colour Cosmic® in Metallic finish was specified in COLORBOND® Ultra steel – designed for severe marine environments – to stand up to unrelenting conditions from the Bass Strait coastline.

When asked what one of his favourite things about the project was, he focused back on the very reason for the building, the penguin experience, saying “Just as the light begins to vanish, thousands of tiny penguins waddle out of the surf then head up the beach and along well-worn paths toward their burrows.”
